NAAAP-NY Scholarship and Leadership Background

Each year, at least two one-time $2,500 scholarships are awarded to high school senior from the Greater Metropolitan New York City area in recognition for their talent and leadership potential based on their applications scored by a Distinguished Panel of Reviewers.

The NAAAP-NY Scholarship Program was redesigned in 2002 to incorporate a corporate Leadership Awards Program to honor exceptional leaders from Asian American corporate affinity groups, as recommended by peers, for their outstanding contributions and accomplishments to their respective corporations.

Recent Keynotes included accomplished professionals, from a variety of fields, such as:

  • 2005 Dr. Mona Siu-Kan Lau who is the Global Head of Diversity for UBS AG. She has been a featured speaker at business schools including Columbia and Wharton, industry and professional conferences such as Catalyst and Working Woman.
  • 2003 Cindy Hsu who joined CBS 2 in 1993 as a correspondent, and currently anchors the station's NEWS THIS MORNING and the NEWS at NOON.
  • 2002 Frank Wu who is on the faculty of the Howard University School of Law, in Washington, D.C. His book Yellow: Race in America Beyond Black and White was published by Basic Books in January 2002.

  • 2005 Bunty Bohra Vice President in the Structured Product Group within the Fixed Income, Currency and Commodities Division of Goldman, Sachs & Co.
  • 2005 Katie Chang Vice President for JPMorgan Chase Bank.
  • 2004 May Kin Ho, PhD. Biotechnology Analyst and Co-head of Healthcare for Global Investment Research for Goldman, Sach & Co.
  • 2004 Jenny Low , Vice President and Manager in the Commercial Leading and Investing Department (CL& I ) of the Community Development Group at JPMorgan Chase
  • 2004 Lydia Wong, Director and Advisor to the Board of Directors of Center's Chinese School
  • 2003 Moon-Bae Chung, Vice President, Financial Management at Prudential Financial. Mr. Chung has been an Executive Sponsor of the Asian Pacific American Association (APAA) at Prudential since its inception in 1999, and is also a mentor in the APAA Mentoring Program.
  • 2003 Suk-Mei Mui, Manager, Transaction Taxes at Verizon Communications. Ms. Mui has played a key role in the Asian Pacific Employees for eXcellence (formerly Asian Focus Group of Verizon) since the organization was founded in 1991. She has held the positions of Treasurer, Vice President, President, and is the current National Treasurer.
  • 2003 Karen Na, Vice President, Broadway/Flushing Branch Manager at JPMorgan Chase. Ms. Na is best known for her achievement in Leadership
    Excellence for Best Performing Branch for many years, and was recently presented with a Profile in Diversity Diamond Award at Chase.
  • 2002 June Jee, currently a Director in the Verizon Communications Community Affairs' group. June currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors at the Museum of Chinese in the Americas, Second Generation Productions, United East Athletic Association, Manhattan Chamber of Commerce and the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies. June is also president of the Asian Focus Group of Verizon.
  • 2002 Veronica Tsang, Vice President in Chase Workplace Financial Services at JPMorgan Chase. She is a member of Chase's Diversity Council, Chase Asian Pacific American Networking group, one of the founders of the Chinese Gift of Life, past president of Rotary Club of Chinatown New York, and serves on the board of the Chinese American Planning Council.
